The three-day Microsoft Dynamics GP Installation and Configuration course provides the tools to help users understand technologies and techniques necessary to successfully install Microsoft Dynamics GP. By covering the basics of installation and setup, in addition to advanced topics such as optimization and troubleshooting, this course helps to minimize the installation time for your customers. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is discussed as it applies specifically to Microsoft Dynamics GP. The course covers the installation of Microsoft Dynamics GP and the installation of the related products listed in the agenda. This course does not go into the setup and use of the application since these topics are covered by other classes offered by Microsoft Training.


At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the requirements and prerequisites of Microsoft Dynamics GP, including those related to Terminal Services and virtualization.
  • Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express with recommended settings as they relate to Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Use Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities to initialize the DYNAMICS database using the basic and advanced options.
  • Identify account framework parameters and other system settings.
  • Perform additional tasks in Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities, including creating additional companies.
  • Install Microsoft Dynamics GP on a client workstation.
  • Create and use an installation package for client workstations.
  • Create automatic updates for customization and service pack deployment.
  • Identify components and files installed by Microsoft Dynamics GP, including settings in the dex.ini and Dynamics.set files.
  • Complete system setup, including registration and system preferences.
  • Create users and define access to companies.
  • Use Security Tasks, Roles, and Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports to define security.
  • Maintain Microsoft Dynamics GP databases.
  • Use the Microsoft Dynamics GP Database Maintenance Utility to recreate database objects.
  • Use the Microsoft SQL Server Maintenance Plan Wizard.
  • Define the settings for optimizing Microsoft Dynamics GP performance.
  • Analyze performance by monitoring SQL Server with System Monitor.
  • Use SQL Profiler and the dexsql.log to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Set up and configure Process Server.
  • Explain the purpose of Report Writer.
  • Deploy and configure Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services reports with Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Deploy and manage Microsoft Excel Reports for Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Configure Microsoft Office Word Templates for Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Configure e-mail distribution of reports.
  • Configure and use Report Scheduler.
