This is a four-day intensive hands on lab course in skills and methods for Linux:

Networking and Security Administration.


Students enrolling in this class should have Linux administration skills and experience with networking services, security, TCIP/IP, NFS, HTTP, DNS, FTP, NIS, and DHCP. The user should have taken the Essentials of Red Hat Linux 5 and the System Administration of Red Hat Linux 5 courses or possess equivalent knowledge.


After completing this course, students will know how to:

  • manage system security and performance
  • manage services to optimise system performance
  • implement network resource access controls
  • use DNS and DHCP to configure networks
  • implement network file sharing services to facilitate secure resource sharing
  • implement the web service to transfer resources and communicate across the Internet, which provides a simplified transport mechanism
  • implement electronic mail services to communicate instantly and quickly
  • implement data security to secure data transfer
  • manage user authentication to allow only authorised users to access systems.
