Change Management Foundation

There are many definitions of change management. We consider it to be:

  • the process, tools and techniques to manage the people side of changing systems, structures and behaviours.
  • realising the change effectively within individuals, teams and organisations.
  • a growing body of knowledge about the problems inherent in managing change and how to avoid or manage the issues.

Recent surveys from organisations such as McKinsey and PricewaterhouseCoopers have shown that initiatives that use Change Management effectively have a four times higher return on investment than projects that don't use Change Management.

Our Change Management courses are administered worldwide by the APM Group based in the UK with offices in Canberra. The APM Group is the UK based organisation that administers the standards and qualifications for PRINCE2 (a standard for project delivery) and ITIL (a standard for service delivery). These are two internationally recognised standards.

All our public courses are held in the Melbourne CBD with an experienced facilitator providing group and/or individual instruction. The trainer will explain Change Management using a combination of:

  • slides
  • discussion
  • practical and relevant exercises.

The courses use an interactive discussion based approach around a core syllabus. Emphasis is placed on practical and real world application as well as gaining the qualification. Participants are encouraged to discuss Change Initiatives that they have seen and the trainer will help relate their experiences to the course content.

Advanced Training maintains a regular schedule of Foundation and Practitioner courses across the year. We are also able to arrange in house private courses for organisations who are looking for flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to explore options outside the normal Foundation/Practitioner course structure. Ring us to discuss your requirements.

At the end of the course you should have knowledge and understanding of

  • how individuals react to change
  • team dynamics and team leaderships especially in the context of change
  • how to approach change in an organisational context with a special reference to organisational metaphors
  • leadership and change
  • applying change concepts in a project or program environment with templates and tools.

  • a copy of “Making Sense of Change Management” (2nd Edition), by Cameron and Green. The syllabus and exam are based on this book
  • a copy of our “Portable Principles of Change Management” Handout, a pocket sized study guide
  • copies of all the slides with additional notes
  • additional material including a selection of templates and tools
  • practice questions for the Change Management Foundation exam and the actual Foundation exam.

This course has been designed for Change Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers and anyone who

  • wishes to learn about Change Management
  • wonders why good ideas for change continually fail
  • understands that project success often requires the active cooperation of many stakeholders
  • wants to enhance their resume with a new qualification.

This should take approximately two-hours and includes an extensive overview of Change Management and sample Foundation exam questions. This is emailed to participants as soon as they book a place on the course.

All Change Management exams are provided by the APM Group; the Foundation exam is a one hour, closed book multiple choice exam. The pass mark is 50%.
