Customizing and Securing Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services 3.0 (5249)


In this online learning course, you will learn how to customize the look, feel, and behavior of a WSS 3.0 site. This includes working with site galleries, site templates, content types, and master pages. In addition, you will learn how to work with advanced document library settings, and how to secure a WSS 3.0 site. This course also helps prepare you for certification exam 70-631.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Have on-the-job experience implementing, managing, and supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2003, including Internet Information Services (IIS).
  • Have working knowledge of networking, for example, TCP/IP and Domain Name System (DNS).
  • Recommended on-the-job experience implementing, managing, and supporting Windows SharePoint Services 2.0.



  • Modify the interface of a WSS site by customizing its look and feel and navigation options.
  • Manage site galleries by managing site templates, columns, and content types, using master pages, and installing Web parts.
  • Modify the general, advanced, and versioning settings of a document library.
  • Manage user accounts, user groups, and site permissions.
  • Describe the considerations and guidelines for securing the contents of a WSS site, configuring security for lists, using IRM with WSS, working with user rights, and managing access to Web applications.
