Fundamentals of WiMAX

Broadband access is currently restricted to an elite segment of customers. This is partly because wired telephone networks require a high capital investment to provide these services. Also, because service providers need to provide individual wired lines to each customer, the number of connections that can be provided in a given location is greatly restricted. Wireless networks have a simpler infrastructure and do not require a capital investment as high as that of wired operators to provide these services. WiMAX is a broadband wireless access technology that has many advantages that provide it with an edge over other wireless broadband services.

This course is intended for individuals who are preparing for entry into mid-level careers in the telecommunications and wireless communications fields, but do not have prior academic background in telecommunications studies or technical work experience in the telecommunications field. However, they should have some basic knowledge on telecommunications. The information presented in this course will enable them to pursue further specialized training in specific technology areas with the eventual goal of qualifying for work as a telecommunications professional.
